Improving Eye Health

How to keep your eyes healthy

eyeColouredFaceIt's important to look after your health which in turn will help promote eye health:

Eating a healthy diet. A healthy diet that includes plenty of fruits, vegetables, and whole grains can help protect your eyes from age-related eye diseases such as cataracts and macular degeneration. These foods are rich in antioxidants, which help to fight free radical damage that can damage the eyes.  Although they can't stop degeneration they might help to slow it down.

Get regular exercise. Exercise is good for your overall health, and it can also help to improve your eye health. Exercise helps to reduce stress, which can contribute to eye problems. It also helps to improve blood circulation, which can help to deliver oxygen and nutrients to the eyes.  For some people we offer glasses to help correct squints and other conditions but we would pick anything like that up during your routing eye examination.

Wear sunglasses. Sunglasses can help to protect your eyes from harmful ultraviolet (UV) rays from the sun. UV rays can damage the eyes and increase the risk of cataracts and macular degeneration.

Don't smoke. Smoking is bad for your overall health, and it's also bad for your eyes. Smoking can increase the risk of cataracts, macular degeneration, and other eye diseases.

Get regular eye exams. It's important to get regular eye exams, even if you don't have any eye problems. This is because eye problems can develop gradually, and you may not notice any symptoms until the problem is advanced. Early detection and treatment of eye problems is important for preserving your vision.

Protect your eyes from injuries. Wear safety goggles when you're working with tools or doing other activities that could put your eyes at risk of injury.

Take care of your contact lenses. If you wear contact lenses, it's important to follow the instructions on how to care for them. Improper care of contact lenses can lead to eye infections.

By following these tips, you can help to improve your eye health and protect your vision for years to come.  If you want more information please give us a call or better still pop into the store where we can arrange for an optometrist to talk to you.
